About the Club
Marin Orchid Society (MOS) is a not-for-profit club of hobbyist and professional orchid growers who meet on the 4th Tuesday evening of each month (except December) in the Tamalpais Room of the San Rafael Corporate Center. MOS meetings host a guest speaker, who also supplies orchid plants for a monthly opportunity table. There is a member show-and-tell segment at each meeting, for members to proudly display and talk about their blooming orchids. Orchid doctors are available to provide guidance, diagnose problems, and to answer questions, and at each meeting MOS’s computer is available for member viewing of the OrchidWiz database, with photos and cultural information on 20,000 species and 127,000 hybrid orchids. Marin Orchid Society also conducts orchid auctions for our members, an orchid trivia night, and weekend greenhouse tours. MOS hosts educational sessions for the public, and we display our members’ orchids at Bay Area orchid shows, cooperating with other Societies to encourage the interest in and culture of orchids.
Orchid conservation and habitat preservation are also an important focus of MOS, which makes available practical and scientific information about the collection, culture and propagation of orchids around the world.
